We were thrilled to host our first onsite event of the year, a joint forum on March 25 with Catalyst for Payment Reform. The event, “Getting What We Pay For: Price Transparency and Payment Reform,” was a rich half-day seminar featuring some of the nation’s leading experts discussing how we can revolutionize the way our country pays medical providers and help patients understand the cost of health care.
Speakers from Catalyst, Employers Centers of Excellence Network (ECEN), Aetna, Change Healthcare and Carrum Health helped us dig deep into some of our biggest opportunities for positive change. Here are the three key action items for employers looking to make a difference:
Catalyst is among the firms leading the way for payment reform with its tools for purchasers and other stakeholders to understand reform and their options for achieving it. In addition, Catalyst has launched a scorecard project to track the nation’s progress on payment reform. California's scorecard is available on its website, and is charging ahead to complete scorecards for New York and Medicare in the near term.
Carrum Health and Change Healthcare are equally committed to revolutionizing healthcare cost transparency and engagement. Through Healthcare University, Change Healthcare strives to better educate its members on becoming better health care consumers. Carrum Health offers a next-generation technology solution to help employers influence consumerism and cost awareness among their workforce. Attacking the issue from all angles, Aetna is doing the same on the carrier side with member-specific transparency tools.
Further, ECEN director Olivia Ross explained how large employers can lock forces with the network, joining the ranks of companies like Walmart and Lowe’s to lower cost while improving quality of care for employees nationwide.
We’ll be hosting new events in San Francisco office later this year. Meantime, join us on the road soon for other sessions near you!
