Calling all Benefits Communications Writers and Strategists | Segal Benz

Written by Jennifer Benz | May 9, 2012

We’re hiring! And we’re looking for the most exceptional, most talented, most passionate people out there. Sound like you or someone you know? Please share this!

We are looking for super talented benefits writers who have experience managing client engagements. This is the key role to our success and our clients’ success—understanding what our clients are trying to accomplish and creating the strategy and individual deliverables that form an effective marketing campaign.

Our ideal candidate has a journalism background and 3 to 5 years of communications consulting experience at a large HR consulting firm, administrator or health plan. You have the technical expertise to explain any nuance of a benefits plan. You have the creative communications and marketing expertise to get people to pay attention to that nuance. You understand how large organizations manage benefits and how to meet the needs of an over-stretched and under-pressure client. You’re inspired by the potential for employee communication to have a truly remarkable role in transforming people, our companies and our country.

But, chances are, you are also quite frustrated in a large slow-moving organization where you have little influence over the organizations’ total success and your future there.

I know you’re out there, because I was one of you six years ago. When I left that big organization, I had no idea how amazing and inspiring our work could be. And what an impact I could make on my clients’ companies, our industry and the world around us.

Well, now I know. Our team has grown to 17 incredible people, our client list would make anyone proud, and we have a role in the national dialog that I’m humbled and inspired by every day. And, now, I’m looking for the people who will take us through our next phase of growth.

We are just as passionate about creating an amazing workplace as we are about creating amazing benefits and HR communications. We have an open and nurturing culture, you’ll get tons of support to grow and develop your skills, and we have loads of time off. We can’t (yet!) offer the salaries and benefits of the big guys, but we make up for that with an opportunity to wholeheartedly love what you do every day.

Most of our team is based in San Francisco, but we have people scattered around the country. Our preference is to find someone who lives in or wants to move to San Francisco, but the right person could live anywhere.

Is this you or someone you know? Please upload your resume and cover letter here. Thank you!
