Five years and our five most popular blog topics | Segal Benz

Written by Jennifer Benz | July 25, 2011

We’re excited to celebrate our 5th birthday with all of you! In those five years, we’ve lost count of blog posts, articles and webinars and presentations. But Google hasn’t. Here are our most popular blog posts to date:

1. Health Care Reform

This started with our template “What to tell employees about health care reform” that was picked up by all sorts of publications and used by hundreds, perhaps thousands of organizations. All of our other posts on health care reform have been big hits as well, including tactical tips like “FAQs about Age 26 Dependents” and “What health reform demands of employee communication” and strategic big-picture posts like “Crossing key messages” and our webinars “Strategically communicating health care reform.”

2. Self-Insured vs Fully Insured Medical Plans

This was one of our first blog posts—and remains one of the most popular. It speaks to the need for clear, simple explanations of the complex behind-the-scenes mechanics that make up benefits plans.

3. Social Media

No surprise, our social media posts get a lot of attention. The first two “Social Media and HR Communication Strategy” and “Smart ways to use social media tools” were posted way back in July 2008. (See, this social media thing has been around for a while!) The latter was the basis for our Social Media Poster, which eventually became our Social Media Starter Kit, the definitive guide to social media for benefits communication, now being used by hundreds of organizations.

4. MetLife Open Enrollment Toolbox

Another popular resource, the MetLife’s 2010 Open Enrollment Toolbox, is a free online resource for employers and brokers. It includes four of our PDF Tip Sheets along with videos and a podcast—all about effective benefits communication. Check it out here.

5. 401(k)s and Fee Transparency

This post from last fall, “Rampant cynicism + 401(k) fees = your problem,” rounds out the top five. We followed it up just recently with “New 401(k) disclosures coming … are your employees ready?”

Hope you enjoy those posts and please let us know what else you’d like to hear about.
