Benefits communication best practices and trends

Employer Advisor Teleseminar

I presented this morning on a California Employer Advisor teleseminar Benefits Communication: How to Teach Your Workers the Value of Their Benefits and Increase Utilization. About 50 companies were on the call and we covered a ton of ground in the 90 minute presentation, including:

  • The Business Case for Benefits Communication
  • Employee Communication Trends
  • Benefits Communication Best Practices
  • Health Care Consumerism
  • How to Get it Done (Tips for Implementing)

We had a lot of great questions during the call, including how to communicate benefit reductions, the right way to leverage managers and supervisors, and how to get the most out of your communication budget this year.

I referenced a bunch of articles and case studies. So, here’s the round up of what we talked about and all the references. For those of you who didn’t make the presentation, feel free to email me for the materials or more details.

Make them count: Four reasons investing in benefits communication can help you retain employees and lower costs This is our white paper on the business case for benefits communication. We covered this in the call and the paper goes into much more detail on each topic.

Of course we covered one of my favorite topics, social media, when we talked about trends. This is my article in Employee Benefit Adviser: Media trends every benefits professional should understand.

We talked in depth about reaching the decision-maker (often spouses and families) and why you should have your benefits information on the internet. Here’s a great case study about how we helped one client make the investment in a benefits website pay off.

We also covered consumer-driven health care and how to make those plans work for employees. This will be the topic of a webinar next week with Employee Benefit Adviser. Hope you can join the discussion next week!
